01 — The story

The story

Koyikkal Palace in Thiruvananthapuram district was built between 1677 and 1684 for Umayamma Rani, a queen of the Venad royal house. It is a Kerala-style building with sloping tiled roofs, timber beams and carved doors.

The palace now holds a Folklore Museum that preserves traditional musical instruments and folk objects of Kerala, along with rare pieces such as an old hookah and a brass flower vase. Around the building are gardens with lawns, flower beds and large shade trees, paved paths lined with small shrines and statues, and a pond.
