The story

Kote Anjaneya is a temple to Hanuman in Tumkur, Karnataka. A visitor first meets its 75-foot statue of the god, which stands at the entrance and was inaugurated in May 2005.

The idol within belongs to a much older tradition. It is one of the images of Hanuman consecrated by Sri Vyasaraja, Rajaguru of the Vijayanagar Empire and guru to Kanakadasa and Purandaradasa. Over five centuries ago he installed 732 such idols across India, and this temple is counted among them.
