Kondapalli Fort, also called Kondapalli Kota or Qila, stands on a hill beside the Krishna River, west of Kondapalli village in the Ibrahimpatnam mandal of NTR district. It dates from the 14th century. The complex first served as a pleasure retreat and trading post, and the British later used it to train soldiers.
Control of the fort changed hands several times: the Reddy kings held it first, followed by the Qutb Shahis, the Mughals and finally the British. Its walls are built of stone and mortar, and paths through green slopes climb up to the ruins.
The main entry, the Dargah Darwaja, is a gateway cut from one huge granite boulder. Inside are the remains of the Tanisha Mahal, once the royal court, and the Golconda Darwaza and the Dargah of Gareeb Saheb lie close by.
