Kavaratti Lighthouse is a concrete tower 38 metres high on Kavaratti Island in the Lakshadweep group. Painted in alternating bands of red and white, it has served as a navigation aid for vessels in the Arabian Sea for several decades and is one of the most visible structures on the island.
Visitors can climb to the top, which looks out over the open Lakshadweep Sea and down to the shoreline of Kavaratti Beach. The tower is also seen locally as a marker of the long bond between the islanders and the surrounding sea, and of the archipelago's seafaring past.
