01 — The story

The story

Karaikal Beach lies on the Bay of Bengal along the coast of Karaikal, in the Union Territory of Puducherry, close to where the Arasalar river forms its estuary. The beach is two kilometres wide and is popular with local people and visitors alike.

The road beside the Arasalar has been widened and lit with sodium vapour lamps, making the beach easier to reach. Children's parks, fountains, tennis courts and restaurants have been built in the area, and there are shops, a hotel and a lighthouse near the shore. Large numbers of people come here every day.
