The Jhanjhari Masjid stands beside the Gomti in Jaunpur's Sipah quarter. Ibrahim Shah, ruler of the Jaunpur Sultanate, built it in 1430 CE to honour Hazrat Said Sadr Jahan Ajmali.
Much of the mosque was later pulled down by Sikandar Lodi, whose builders reused its stones in other monuments, notably the Shahi Bridge, and floods on the Gomti caused further damage. What remains is a towering arched gateway carrying Arabic inscriptions in the Tughra script: a passage from Surah Baqara runs along both sides of the arch, while a hadith fills the base of its pointed arch.
