This long-established temple in Bareilly is dedicated to Jagannath, the form of Vishnu best known from Puri in Odisha. It is not a large building, but it is valued locally both as a place of worship and as an example of the craft of the period in which it was built. The setting is quiet, with the sound of bells in the background for much of the day.
The main images inside are carved figures of Jagannath with his brother Balabhadra and his sister Subhadra, and the walls and doorways carry traditional decorative carving. The biggest event of the year is the Rath Yatra, held on the same pattern as the festival at Puri: the three deities are set on decorated chariots and pulled through the streets of the city in procession, and large crowds of devotees join in with music and chanting.
