The story

The Himachal State Museum in Shimla displays art and objects with a focus on the Pahari style. Its collection takes in paintings and handicrafts, archaeological pieces such as stone images dating from the 8th century, and a doll gallery featuring bride and groom figures. Much of the artwork covers the period from the 1860s to the 1920s, when styles and ideas in art were changing.

The museum occupies 'Inverarm', a building in the hill architectural style that stands on a small rise next to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, close to the Mall Road.
