The story

Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha at Kedli Kalan in Jharkhand's Chatra district is regarded as one of the oldest gurdwaras in eastern India. Tradition holds that Guru Nanak halted at Kedli Chatti on his first Udasi, his journey east through Bihar, and taught Sikhism to local people who gathered to hear him. Guru Tegh Bahadur also came this way while travelling from Varanasi towards Gaya and Patna.

The gurdwara keeps a handwritten Guru Granth Sahib about 200 years old. A few Nanakpanthi Hindus once lived here; later, Agrahari Sikhs from eastern Uttar Pradesh who came for the timber trade settled after learning of the place's link with the Guru's travels, and they also built a gurdwara in the Dumari area of Hunterganj.
