01 — The story

The story

Gun Hill rises to about 2,122 metres and is the second-highest peak in Mussoorie. Its name comes from the British period, when, by local account, a cannon on the summit was fired at fixed hours such as sunrise, noon and sunset so that people across the area could keep time. The shots also served as warnings in emergencies. The firing stopped long ago, but the name remained.

The top has telescopes for viewing the Himalayas and the valleys, marked remains of the old gun positions and traces of a former shooting range. Ziplining and rappelling are offered, and local vendors sell hot snacks.
