The story

Gandhi Ghat lies on the Ganga in Patna and is believed to be a place where Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were immersed in the river. Each evening priests in saffron hold the Ganga Aarti here, lighting and waving 51 lamps while hymns are chanted, and large crowds of devotees and visitors gather to watch.

On Makar Sankranti the ghat hosts a kite festival. A river cruise vessel also departs from here, offering trips along the Ganga past Patna's landmarks, with an onboard restaurant, live music and a guide giving commentary on the city and the river.
