The story

The Dargah of Shah Ata is a shrine complex at Bangarh, Gangarampur, beside Dhaldighi Lake. The brick structure, probably built in the 14th century, is a square mausoleum open to the sky that encloses the grave of Mollah Atar-Uddin, known as Shah Ata. Its lower part is of stone.

Though long identified as a dargah, the building is in fact a mosque, with niches in its walls and four Arabic inscriptions. Remains found at the site suggest that a temple of the Pala period (c. 750–1161) stood here before it.
