01 — The story

The story

Craignano Nature Park sits beside the Shimla-Naldehra highway at roughly 7,700 feet. It began as an Italian-style estate created by Chevalier Frederico Peliti, a noted Italian confectioner and photographer, who gave it the name of the village in Italy where he was born.

The grounds include a small lake, picnic areas and a treehouse that visitors can climb for a raised view of the park. Its best-known feature is a water lift, described as the tallest in the world, whose mechanism was built to push water uphill. The trees and gardens also draw butterflies and birds, which makes the park popular with photographers.
