The story

Chintaman Ganesh is the biggest temple to Ganesha in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on the far side of the Kshipra river along the Fatehabad railway line, about 7 km south-west of the town. The temple goes back to Paramara rule over Malwa in the 11th and 12th centuries, though belief holds that the original shrine goes back to the age of the Ramayana and was founded by Sita.

The Ganesha image here is believed to be self-manifested. Known locally as Chintaman, or Chintaharan, the remover of worries, he is flanked by his consorts Riddhi and Siddhi, and crowds come to lay their cares before him. The white shrine and the carefully carved stone pillars of its assembly hall speak of the temple's age.
