The story

Bhagalpur Museum, in Bhagalpur district of Bihar, opened on 11 November 1976 and is administered by the Bihar government's Cultural Department. Its holdings span the Maurya to Mughal periods, though most pieces date from the 2nd to the 7th century, and the collection has grown over the years. A decision to expand it further was taken when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited in 2023.

The idols on show include images of Ganesha, 7th-century figures of the goddess Durga, a Yakshini found at SSM School and black stone carvings from the Buddhist period. The museum also keeps a large group of Madhubani-style paintings from the medieval period, along with coins and preserved manuscripts.
