Bantony Castle is a Gothic-style building in Shimla, put up by the Earl of Bantony in 1880 and later used as the home of the British Deputy Commissioner of the town. Its exterior has pointed arches, detailed stonework and turrets, and the design mixes ideas from medieval European castles with its hill setting.
Inside are high ceilings, wood-panelled rooms, carved walls and stained-glass windows. The building stands on a lawn planted with flower beds and cedar trees. It has been restored and is kept as a reminder of the years when Shimla was the British summer capital.
