Badi Patan Devi Temple in Patna is one of the 51 Siddha Shakti Pithas. Legend says Vishnu's Sudarshan Chakra severed the right thigh of Sati at this spot. The temple grew over many centuries, with renovations as late as the 18th century.
The sanctum holds stone images of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati, seated on thrones and dressed in saris and crowns, and Vyom Bhairav, a form of Shiva, is also worshipped here. Devotees offer sindoor and flowers at the havan kund. Another tradition places the goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura at this site.
