The story

Amaravila Rameswaram Sri Mahadeva Temple is a Shiva temple on the banks of the Neyyar at Amaravila, about a kilometre from Neyyattinkara town in Thiruvananthapuram district. It is believed to be among Kerala's 108 Shiva temples installed by Parasurama, and one of the two Rameswaram temples in that list, the other being in Kollam. Local tradition holds that Rama himself installed the image, which gave the temple its name.

The Shiva linga and the goddess Parvati share the same sanctum, with Ganapati placed to its right. A ten-day festival in the month of Dhanu (December–January) closes with the Arattu on Thiruvathira day, and at Mahashivaratri Pongala is offered to Parvati. During the month of Karkidakam the temple is especially known for pitru tarpanam, rites for ancestors performed in the Neyyar.
